Of course, as a Mom, other priorities sometimes will come first. However, making yourself a hot water with lemon is not exactly rocket science. Pre-cutting lemons and using an electric kettle really help to cut down on the effort I have to put in, for amazing results.
Every morning I have a mug, it completely energizes my day.
When I first was introduced to hot water with lemon, as a healthy habit, I was making a major life change. I had just signed up for my Health Coach Training, at The Institute for Integrated Nutrition. I started with my food. This simple act of starting my day with a hot water with lemon had massive results. I noticed my mood was lifted and my thought process became more clear, within 15 minutes of drinking it. It is so simple and I love the way it tastes. Then I learned of all the benefits, no wonder I felt so great.
The citric acid promotes enzyme function in the liver, which helps to rid the body of toxins. Lemons are also very alkalizing inside our bodies, due to their mineral content. When our bodies become an acidic environment, we become prone to many different diseases. Eating more alkaline foods will lead to a more balanced environment.
How I Spice It Up
Do you get bored of the same thing day after day? Yup. Me too. I use any combination, or all four of these “boosters” in my hot water with lemon. This is not a diet, or fast, I still eat breakfast after. This is how I start my morning routine.

- ginger: relieving digestive problems such as nausea, loss of appetite, motion sickness and pain
- raw honey: contains flavonoids, antioxidants which help reduce the risk of some cancers and heart disease.
- cinnamon: can lower blood sugar levels, reduce heart disease risk factors, and has a plethora of other impressive health benefits
- cayenne: also has a massive list of benefits, my favourite are: relieves joint and nerve pain, boosts metabolism, and prevents factors that lead to the formation of blood clots, which can help reduce the chances of a heart attack or stroke.
